19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

He rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
